Amigos en Accion

Ashley Sullivan, a member of HUMC, along with Martha Rojas, a native of El Sauce, Nicaragua, started an education program for students in 3rd – 6th grade. The students attend the Amigos en Accion program in the morning. They get assistance with their homework, learn English, participate in enrichment activities, and enjoy a healthy snack before attending their regular school in the afternoon.

Project Chacocente

In 2004, the plight of ten families living in Managua, Nicaragua’s city dump changed forever. Following the pleas of a group of North American youth and God’s call to service, the families moved from their homes atop the trash heap to the fresh air and fertile land of rural Masaya. HUMC supports two of the students at Chacocente through a yearly donation to ensure that the programs, especially their education, will continue at the highest level possible.

Redbird Mission

Red Bird Mission, Inc. and Red Bird Clinic, Inc. have been providing ministries in this region of the Appalachian Mountains since 1921. Today the need remains critical in this isolated, rural distressed area. Chronic poverty, lack of jobs, poor housing, and rugged mountainous terrain provide obstacles to a fuller life for the residents of this area. Red Bird Mission and Clinic strives to meet these needs through ministry in five areas: Education, Health and Wellness, Community Outreach, Economic Opportunity, and Community Housing Improvement. HUMC has sent a group of volunteers to work on renovating homes since 2017.
